Petersburg, VA - Part 1 (July 13, 2018)

July 2018: I recently took off work to visit Petersburg, VA (technically Sutherland) (Outside Richmond) to spend time with my grandmother and great grandmother. My great grandmother is 91 years old yet still in healthy condition.

I went to see her for 3 days. However, they do live near the Norfolk Southern - Norfolk Division. However, we didn't see much though I will attach a picture of one of the crossings near there (Not a good photo however).
Near Sutherland, VA
However we didn't see any trains near us, I heard them but didn't see them in time. (Since the speed limit on the two mainlines is 45+ MPH)

Although there is no need to be bummed out, we went to the CSX and Amtrak station in Ettrick (The sign says Petersburg, VA for some unusual reason), there were talks about moving the train station near route 1. However, the college of VSU, Virginia State University is in a fist fight with Amtrak and CSX arguing why this isn't good for the college.

But anyways it wont happen yet, so we went to the current station. We saw two Amtrak trains and one CSX train. We could of have sawed two CSX trains but we weren't in time for the first CSX train.  He was already on the siding.

After the Amtrak train we first saw left, here comes a CSX Coal train (Maybe Coke?) in hoppers marked FURX? I don't remember. But I got a photo of him.

CSX train, notice the train on the right, we could have saw that train if we were here earlier.
This train was fast clearing track one. In 20 mins the Amtrak Train came on track one!
The classic P42 diesel Loco in Amtrak Scheme. Love it! But boy she needs cleaned. Maybe next time.
That is pretty much the photos I took. I have more stories to tell you here soon.

That day was very quick; we (my grandmother and I) only spent an half hour there. There is always tomorrow. That is where part two happens which can be found here.
